We are unique among Los Angeles drug and alcohol treatment centers in that we truly believe that recovery requires community, and we work hard to include our clients’ families at every stage of the treatment process.

At Westside Treatment in Los Angeles, we believe that addiction thrives in isolation, and that with the right help and community support, everyone is capable of overcoming their difficulties to go on to live the lives they’ve always dreamt of.

That’s why we work so hard to help our clients connect with a Los Angeles recovery community. We believe that no one should have to struggle alone. In addition to providing Los Angeles drug and alcohol treatment and services for not only individuals but their families as well, at Westside Treatment, we offer wrap-around care, which means that we don’t stop helping our clients when they leave treatment for the day. We strive to help our clients overcome their demons and work towards recovery 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We do this by coordinating treatment with everyone who is involved in a client’s case.

This means that if you or your loved one is receiving help from a Los Angeles sober living, therapist, psychiatrist, recovery coach, or any other provider, we will check in with that provider every step of the way so that everyone involved is on the same page. This wrap-around approach allows us to offer world class drug and alcohol treatment in Los Angeles, where those in need don’t slip through the cracks. Our clients often come to Westside at a very low point in their lives.

They may be struggling in any number of areas, from education and career to personal relationships and self-esteem. At Westside Treatment’s Los Angeles drug and alcohol treatment programs, we work with our clients to come up with an individual treatment plan that is tailored to fit each client’s specific needs, and we employ a wide variety of evidenced-based and holistic approaches. Just as each individual is unique, at Westside Treatment, we work with each client to come up with a treatment plan that is truly unique, therefore we offer each specific client what they need in the moment. Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

At Westside Treatment, we offer three different types of treatment, known in the healthcare world as “levels of care.” The highest level of care we offer is called a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Westside Treatment’s PHP is a great choice for someone who has just completed residential treatment, and is beginning the process of integrating back into their home life. Our PHP takes place from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. During this time, clients participate in four 90-minute therapy groups per day. Lunch is provided by Westside Treatment daily, and in addition to group therapy, clients participate in two individual therapy sessions per week. A PHP is a great choice for someone who’s looking for an option outside of residential treatment. An individual may be unable to or not have the desire to enroll in residential treatment, which is where a PHP comes into play. At the PHP level of care, our clients can receive intensive treatment while remaining in the comfort of their own homes. Unlike most other programs, PHP clients of Westside Treatment are assigned a family coordinator in addition to an individual therapist. The family coordinator specifically reaches out to the client’s family to provide family counseling, and update them on how their loved one is doing in treatment. When possible, our family coordinators facilitate therapy sessions with the client and their family – to help clients and family members negotiate boundaries, practice clear and healthy communication, and work on resolution of any conflicts that may have arisen. Family therapy sessions are often conducted in person, but can also be conducted over the phone if the client’s family is not able to meet face-to-face. Clients also have access to personalized case management sessions to assist them in creating resumes, applying for school or jobs, and accessing local resources. Many clients find that our PHP is extremely helpful in assisting them with the treatment they need while residing in their own homes.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Westside Treatment’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is here to help clients struggling with addiction, depression, anxiety, and/or other mental health issues. Our IOP is a great option for someone who has completed residential treatment, but would like additional support with integrating back into a sober life. In IOP, clients continue to practice the skills they learned while in residential treatment, and also learn a variety of new skills specifically designed to help them manage the stressors of everyday life without having to rely on drugs or alcohol to get by. Westside Treatment’s IOP consists of two 90-minute therapy groups per day, either five or three days per week. Clients typically begin treatment attending IOP five days per week, and once they settle in and make progress, will often drop down to three days of IOP per week. Clients often remain in IOP for two to three months – sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. Westside Treatment’s individualized programming allows us to work with each client to come up with a holistic treatment plan that meets their unique needs, thus there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach. During IOP, each client is assigned a family therapist in addition to their individual therapist. This allows families to be integrated into the recovery process, while maintaining the integrity of the client’s individual work. Clients also have access to personalized case management sessions to assist with creating resumes, applying for school or jobs, or accessing local resources.

Outpatient Program (OP)

Westside Treatment’s Outpatient Program (OP) is specifically designed to help clients continue their treatment while they return to full-time work or school. In recovery, it is important to make gradual transitions, rather than go from one extreme to another. This is why it’s highly recommended for clients to continue some form of treatment after completing 30 days of residential treatment. Westside Treatment is fully equipped to help clients safely transition from a highly structured and intensive residential program, to a more independent life through our outpatient programming. When a client enters Westside Treatment after leaving residential care, they begin in our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). In this phase, clients typically reside at home or in sober living, and attend treatment during the day. Once clients are comfortable and are doing well, clients can then step down to Westside Treatment’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). In the IOP phase, clients continue to build the skills they will need to maintain their sobriety throughout all stages of life. When clients have completed IOP, it is crucial that they continue to have support while they return to work, school, or to their normal lives. This is why Westside Treatment has an OP – so that clients can continue to receive, and benefit from, the structure of treatment. Westside Treatment’s OP consists of one group therapy session and one individual therapy session per week. Clients continue to have access to all members of the treatment team during OP treatment, including their individual therapist, their family coordinator, and case management services. Clients can easily be stepped back up to a higher level of care, such as IOP, if for whatever reason they require additional support. In this way, Westside Treatment helps prevent relapse and ensures our clients’ success throughout the recovery process. It is our mission to give our clients the best possible chance to attain the lives they desire. We do this by designing a customized treatment plan and program for every individual, as well as providing them with a robust network of support services.

At Westside Treatment, we utilize an evidence-based approach to address the multifaceted needs of our clients and their families.

The Caring Approach

C: Community   A: Accountability   R: Recovery   I: Integration   N: Needs   G: Goals

Suffering addicts grappling with dependency issues become increasingly isolated. To sustain active addiction, the suffering addict invests an abundance of resources in protecting his or her right to use. To maintain the seeming sense of urgency to use, the addict creates separation, hiding from his or her community, and distancing himself/herself from family, friends, and loved ones. Establishing a community and developing a sense of belonging are primary elements required in successful treatment. The Westside Treatment community collaborates with family and other support systems in a client’s life to embrace the individual and allow him/her to develop a sense of belonging and being part of something meaningful. We offer weekly community groups and work closely to help our clients to access community support as well. Westside Treatment also maintains close contact with family and loved ones to help them learn how to best support their loved ones.

The suffering addict often struggles with meeting the day to day challenges of life. “Showing up” to the obligations and responsibilitiesof daily life can seem onerous and overwhelming for many. Another fundamental element of treatment involves taking responsibility for commitments and obligations. Attending to these often invokes frustration, anxiety, and loss of motivation. At Westside Treatment, we value the opportunities that help clients learn how to navigate historically challenging situations. By developing coping strategies, clients can remain engaged in the recovery process and walk through setbacks and difficulties as they arise. Our aim is to help our clients build a sense of personal responsibility by embracing their strengths, accepting their challenges, and honoring their commitments.

Successful treatment must include a comprehensive education and offer individuals the needed tools to arrest addiction. Our clients are educated about their diagnoses and the various triggers that aggravate addiction. Clients learn the value of accessing a wide array of coping resources including spirituality, mindfulness, meditation, and 12-step support. Group and individual therapies provide relapse prevention and examine the various cognitive, emotional, familial, and historical issues that impact addictive behavior.

One of our primary missions at Westside Treatment is to help individuals integrate into the community in a manner that supports ongoing abstinence and life fulfillment. Experiences in school and work for many of our clients have often been fraught with stress and a feeling of defeat. Our aim is to help identify these barriers and provide our clients with the needed coping skills to address their particular issues around re-entry. Individuals are provided with assistance building resumes, searching for jobs, and preparing for interviews and applying to schools.

Clients who enter treatment have a host of life challenges. At Westside Treatment, each client is provided a comprehensive assessment that identifies both the individual’s challenges as well strengths. The assessment helps identify the gravity of the addiction, mental health symptoms, impact of life trauma, historical challenges, bereavement issues, relational and family issues, and vocational and educational needs. The assessment also includes a psychiatric evaluation and a comprehensive examination of barriers experienced in past treatment episodes. Upon completion of the initial assessment, clients are assigned a therapist and are assigned to individually tailored groups to address their challenges.

Effective treatment must demonstrate growth and hope. At Westside Treatment, each client, in collaboration with his/her clinician, will identify treatment goals. The treatment goals are evaluated routinely. Clients are offered education and skills to address their individualized goals. Clients work closely with their therapists to help address challenges in the process of meeting their goals. Our group sessions also assist clients in addressing their goals. Group treatments include relapse prevention, healthy relationships, anger management, stress reduction, mindfulness, art therapy, drama therapy, yoga, and a variety of other topics. When indicated, we also help individuals address issues of trauma and emotional dysregulation by providing somatic therapies, and DBT.
